Ode’iminens – The Little Heart Berry

Ode’iminens is a low-growing native perennial known for its delicate white flowers and sweet, bright red fruit. In Anishinaabe understanding, strawberries are heart berries — symbols of renewal, gratitude, and the sweetness of life. Even the smallest woodland species carries that same spirit of generosity.

A Native Groundcover of Forest Edges

Woodland Strawberry grows along sunny forest margins, clearings, and open meadows. In spring, white five-petaled flowers bloom above trifoliate leaves, followed by small, intensely flavorful berries in early summer. It spreads gently by runners, forming a living carpet that supports soil and biodiversity.

Planting Ode’iminens strengthens groundlayer diversity and reconnects landscapes with traditional food-bearing plants.
