Sky Blue Aster

Symphyotrichum oolentangiense

A beautiful prairie and savanna wildflower known for its soft sky-blue flowers that appear in late summer and early autumn. Sky Blue Aster forms bushy clumps with many branching stems, each carrying delicate star-shaped blooms with bright golden centers. The flowers create a light cloud of blue that brightens open landscapes just as the growing season begins to transition toward fall.

A Wildflower of Prairies and Open Slopes

Sky Blue Aster grows naturally in dry prairies, open woodlands, savannas, and rocky slopes where it receives full sun and well-drained soil. It is particularly well suited to prairie restoration and native meadow plantings where it blends beautifully with native grasses and other fall-blooming species.

Planting Waabishki-bag strengthens late-season pollinator resources and adds gentle autumn color to native landscapes.
