Deciduous forests from swamps to rich upland beech-maple and oak-hickory sometimes occurring with cedar or hemlock. Partial sun to medium shade, moist to slightly dry conditions, loamy or rocky soil. New roots will develop where the stems have contact with soil. This plant will reproduce vegetatively. Fast-growing ground cover.
