Bineshiinh-giizhikens – The Woodland Crane’s Bill

Wild Geranium is a graceful woodland perennial known for its soft pink-lavender flowers and deeply divided leaves. Blooming in mid spring, it brings gentle color and structure to the forest floor before the canopy fully closes.

A Native of Rich Woodland Edges

Wild Geranium grows naturally in deciduous forests, woodland openings, and shaded slopes. Its five-petaled flowers rise above mounded foliage and provide early nectar for pollinators emerging in spring. After flowering, distinctive beaked seed pods develop — giving the plant its common name “crane’s bill.”

Planting Wild Geranium strengthens woodland diversity and adds long-lasting groundcover in shaded ecosystems.
