Whorled Milkweed
Asclepias verticillata
A delicate and finely textured native milkweed with slender, thread-like leaves arranged in whorls along the stem. In mid to late summer it produces clusters of small white flowers that attract a wide diversity of pollinators. Despite its delicate appearance, this species is tough, drought tolerant, and well suited to dry prairie and sandy soils.
Unlike many milkweeds, Whorled Milkweed remains relatively compact and blends beautifully into prairie plantings and meadow restorations, adding light texture and late-season bloom.
Growing Conditions
Ideal for prairie restorations, dry meadows, sandy soils, pollinator gardens, and naturalized landscapes. Performs especially well in dry, open habitats where other milkweeds may struggle.
