The Red Trillium (Trillium erectum) is one of Ontario’s most recognizable woodland wildflowers, and this Summer 2026 tee celebrates its beauty with a bold pop art design. Andy would dig it!
Red Trillium blooms in early spring across rich deciduous forests, where it plays an important role in healthy woodland ecosystems. One of its most fascinating adaptations happens after flowering. Each seed carries a small, nutrient-rich structure called an elaiosome—a fleshy appendage that ants find irresistible. The ants carry the seeds back to their nests, eat the elaiosome, and discard the seed in nutrient-rich soil, helping new trilliums spread naturally through the forest. This remarkable partnership, known as myrmecochory, has helped trilliums thrive for thousands of years.
