Loose-flowered Sedge
Carex laxiflora
Limited Quantities
A graceful native woodland sedge, Loose-flowered Sedge is an excellent low-growing groundcover for shaded gardens and rich deciduous forests. Its soft, arching green foliage forms attractive clumps that blend naturally into the woodland floor, providing texture and structure throughout the growing season.
In spring, delicate flowering stems rise above the foliage, producing small, understated flower and seed structures. While not showy like a woodland wildflower, Loose-flowered Sedge plays an important role in healthy forest understories and is especially valuable for creating natural-looking native plant communities.
This adaptable sedge performs particularly well beneath mature deciduous trees, where it tolerates shade and competes successfully with tree roots. It spreads gradually to form colonies without becoming aggressive, making it an excellent choice for woodland restoration, shaded borders, and naturalized landscapes.
