Matteuccia pensylvanica
Grown in average, medium to wet soils in part shade to full shade. Best in rich soils with constant moisture. Rhizomes spread to form dense colonies. Prefers cool summer climates and is drought intolerant.
The edible sterile fronds emerge at the base of the fern clump in early spring known as fiddleheads. Will tolerate Rabbit browsing, deep shade, erosion, clay soil and wet soils. Avoid windy areas.
