Black Cherry
Prunus serotina
Black Cherry is a large, fast-growing deciduous tree prized for its glossy leaves, fragrant flowers, and valuable fruit. In spring, it produces long, cascading clusters of small, white flowers that attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. These are followed by dark purple to black cherries in late summer, which are eaten by birds and other wildlife.. Black Cherry grows mainly in moist-dry sandy or loamy soils and and is commonly found in woodlands, forest edges, and old fields. It provides essential habitat for wildlife and is an important species in reforestation projects.
